We are a non profit making association, based in the Lannion area of Cotes d'Armor Brittany. This location does not restrict our membership and anyone located outside Brittany can apply. Our objective is to share our various experiences pertaining to the construction of private housing. We are totally independent with no links to any builders or other trade interest in this discipline. Our cash flow and resources is generated solely by the membership fees and the proactive free participation of our members.

Created in 1993, AMIH incorporated 243 members at the end of 2008. If the house building trade is presently buoyant, the poor workmanship and swindling is equally on a minor upward trend!

In 2008 we handled 494 telephone calls via the answering machine. We have visited 51 work sites, we have organised 21 Tuesday's meetings (dedicated to our members when they need a personalised help) and exchanged more than 680 e-mails via Internet. We have analysed and given a feed-back on 16 projects. We have planned and organised 6 meetings for a specific topic in 2008 (thermal insulation, geothermic energy,…) . The topics of these meetings are for example : The technical aspect of the building phase, financial , legal , and input for the management in undertaking such a project. We have at our disposal "technical data sheets" which incorporate the previous experience gained on several topics (these are for members only). In 2008 we have added 2 new data sheets.On another hand we can provide a sustained and dedicated support for a specific project , starting with a review of quotations and/or the building contract prior to acceptance and signature, work site visits (in Brittany) and legal advice in view of existing or forthcoming difficulties etc…

Our "term of reference" is often made to the CCMI Contrat de Construction de maison Individuelle (Building Contract for Private Housing ) (law of 19 Decembre 1990) this is one of the "least deficient" legal cover in France. We recommend that you avoid in particular private companies and tradesmen own's contractual documents.
